Decepti0n is the Active Skill used by Zer0 in Borderlands 2. When activated, Zer0 simultaneously deploys a holographic decoy of himself, and engages a cloaking device. While the decoy draws the enemy's attention, Zer0 can move around the battlefield unnoticed.

Attacking from stealth deactivates the cloaking device, and attacking sooner reduces the cooldown until the skill can be activated again. However, attacking sooner lowers the potential damage that can be inflicted while stealthed; waiting until the last possible moment to fire or slash with a melee attack adds significant bonuses to Zer0's critical hit damage. The strategy in using Zer0's Active Skill then becomes about balance; weighing the potential of inflicting heavy damage versus the time spent waiting to go into stealth mode again. As Zer0 gains levels, the upper limit of the bonuses to gun and melee damage increase, well into ten thousand percent or better.

Several of Zer0's other skills improve or augment the effects of Decepti0n:

• Unf0rseen causes the holographic decoy to explode when Zer0 drops out of stealth mode, dealing splash damage to enemies that have mobbed around it.
• Innervate causes his gun damage, health regeneration and movement speed to go up while Zer0 is stealthed.
• B0re (in addition to adding Penetration to rounds) highlights the critical weak-points of enemies while Zer0 is in Stealth Mode.
• Death Bl0ss0m augments Zer0's melee attack while in stealth; instead of a sword, Zer0 throws exploding kunai which do not cancel Stealth Mode and can apply the Death Mark.
• Many Must Fall allows Zer0 to re-deploy his holographic duplicate and prolong the duration of Stealth Mode each time he kills an enemy in Stealth. This effect can also trigger multiple times.
